Fishing the Ewenny

The Ewenny is a stunning river to fish, and a wondeful challenge for even the most proficient fly angler.

It's beauty is in it's variety, and it's that variety that can set a new challenge at every turn, even for those experienced in the technical requirements of small river fishing. Fortunately PADAC's membership have a shared wealth of knowledge and are always willing to lend a hand in passing on their wisdom! The members forum, club events, even litter-picks, all give plenty chances to converse with fellow Ewenny anglers who have had time to 'unlock' the best approach to a certain pool...or how to fish a run when the water's running high and coloured...or the best fly pattern to try on a certain section on a summer's evening. That's what membership of PADAC can offer - not just the chance to fish the Ewenny, but to do so succesfully.

That said, on with a little practical information; Time spent walking the river to observe the both it's constraints and opportunities is time well spent. From wide, slow, silty sections to tumbling pocket-water, majestic pools and chest-deep bedrock channels barely an arms-width across, all provide scope for copious sport with wild fish of all sizes. The next two pages will help by giving you an overview of the river and it's characteristic zones, as well as some basic information on the tackle and techniques best suited to maximising your success on the Ewenny.
